Conductivity is a measure of a solution’s ability to pass or transmit electrical current. Conductivity sensors are mainly used to monitor the ion concentration in any solution, mainly water quality. Conductivity electrodes are widely used in monitoring reverse osmosis processes, determining the accurate concentration of solids in water, controlling activated sludge processes, monitoring environmental conditions, monitoring industrial wastewater, monitoring chemical concentrations in water, preventing boiler and cooling tower structures, etc. There are two basic sensor types for measuring conductivity: contact and inductive (ring-shaped, electrodeless). With contact sensors, conductivity is measured by applying a current to a sensor electrode immersed in a solution and measuring the resulting voltage. The solution serves as an electrical conductor between the sensor electrodes. With electrodeless conductivity sensors, the sensing element (electrode coil) is not in direct contact with the process liquid. The two matched coils are enclosed in a PP housing, protecting them from the adverse effects of the process fluid. Therefore, when measuring water quality in the high conductivity range, it means that free ions are prevalent in the water and there are more pollutants. At this time, you should choose to use an electrodeless Conductivity Sensor, which will not cause polarization of the solution, will not be contaminated, and is almost unnecessary maintain.
The principle of electrodeless conductivity sensor
The inductive conductivity sensor uses the principle of electromagnetic induction to measure conductivity. The conductivity of the liquid is proportional to the induced voltage/excitation voltage within a certain range. The excitation voltage remains unchanged, and the conductivity is proportional to the induced voltage.
