Turbidity is an indicator that reflects the physical properties of swimming pools. From the perspective of disinfection and safety, the turbidity of pool water should be higher than or equal to the sanitary standards for drinking water. The conventional water treatment for swimming pools in China is sedimentation-sand filtration-chlorination. Under normal and reasonable operating conditions, the turbidity can be controlled at ≤1~2NTU. With the improvement of water quality requirements, in recent years, China’s swimming pool water turbidity standard has been raised to ≤0.5NTU. The world health organization points out that the suitable turbidity of swimming pool water quality is 0.5NTU, the German swimming pool water quality standard is 0.2~0.5NTU, and the Spanish swimming pool water quality standard is 0.5~1NTU. There are usually several methods for monitoring the turbidity of swimming pool water: observation method, which determines the turbidity by observing the turbidity of swimming pool water with the naked eye. This method is highly subjective and not accurate enough. It is a simple preliminary judgement method. The filter paper method is to immerse the filter paper in the swimming pool water and observe the deposition of particles on the filter paper to determine the turbidity. This method is suitable for the measurement of larger particles. Currently the most widely used method is to use a Turbidity Meter to measure turbidity. Turbidimeters determine the turbidity of suspended matter in water by measuring the scattering of light in water.
